What's In A Name? A Lot!

by

This week we changed our name from the Jewish Community Council of West Rogers Park (JCCWRP) to the Jewish Neighborhood Development Council of Chicago (JNDC), a move aimed at clarifying who we are, what we do and where we do it.

Over the past five years, since we re-launched JCCWRP, our name has occasionally generated confusion. Some thought we were the “J.”  Some thought we focused exclusively on West Rogers Park.  And some had absolutely no idea what we do.

The new name should make clear that we actively seek to promote projects that will improve the neighborhoods in which our community resides.  The new name will also eliminate a perceived barrier to our ability to reach out beyond West Rogers Park to other nearby Chicago neighborhoods and to Lincolnwood and Skokie, as well.

Later this month our board will be meeting to set an agenda for the future. We have achieved major goals over the last few years, and in the years ahead we seek to build on that momentum by identifying other ways in which we can make an even greater impact.

Simultaneously we are working to expand our reach, utilizing our recent documentary as a trigger piece for discussion with community members who we hope to interest and engage in our work.  We want to learn from them, as well, regarding issues and concerns that affect their neighborhoods.

If you want to host or attend such a session, please let us know!
